DESCRIPTION

Released in 2010, the Maker's 46 is named for the number of different wood 'recipes' tried before getting it right. The distillery takes the fully matured standard Maker's Mark at cask strength, and then finishes it in barrels containing 10 toasted new French oak staves for nine weeks. Bottled at 47%. (Bottle size 750ml)

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Hints of toasty French oak, caramel and baking spices.

Palate: Mildly sweet and uniquely layered with deep rich notes of vanilla and baking spice.

Really tasty

"Don't overlook this great whiskey for a great price. Soft spice, rich and warming, but balanced with a long finish."

Zesty and interesting bourbon

"The Makers 46 is a much more interesting dram than the traditional bottling. It presents an exuberance of sweet, spicy and oaky notes on the nose. The palate starts off tame and then becomes much more heated, introducing caramels and cinnamon before leading into a sweet, lightly spiced finish. A must try for those that enjoy bourbons and sweeter drams in general."

My Braaing Dram

"I'm impressed by the long finish of this whiskey, the sweetness, spiciness and oakiness of the liquid is all rounded and gently coat the mouth with the smoothness and creaminess. I have this whiskey everytime i braai it pairs very well with any barbeque meat or ribs.."

Familiar and tasty

"For any fan of the original Maker's or in fact, any classic Bourbon, there is tons of familiar ground here but everything is just kicked up a notch. The mid palate is massively flavourful and mostly sweet without any of the hectic alcohol influence that you see in barrel proofs. The tannic wood note has a slightly different quality to it than other classics, likely due to the French oak. Only downside for me is the finish is quite short."
