DESCRIPTION

The Waterford Estate Antigo 2021 is a Cabernet Sauvignon-led red blend from Waterford Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Named after the estate's distinctive Antigo red clay soils, this wine is a tribute to the unique terroir of the eastern slopes of the Helderberg, where the richer soils produce a softer, more approachable expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2021 vintage is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot. Grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed but not crushed, before fermenting for approximately 18 days. The wine is then matured for 20 months in French oak barrels, 25% of which are new, resulting in a refined balance of fruit, structure and elegance. Bottled at 13.3% ABV.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Plush aromas of red currants and blackberries are layered with subtle tobacco, creamy oak, cedar and delicate herbal notes, creating an inviting and elegant bouquet.

Palate: Medium to full-bodied with generous red and black fruit flavours supported by vibrant acidity and beautifully integrated French oak. Fine, supple tannins provide structure while maintaining a plush, fruit-forward character that is a hallmark of the Antigo vineyard.

Finish: Long, smooth and textured, with lingering red berry fruit, subtle oak spice, mineral freshness and refined tannins
