DESCRIPTION

From a single 0.9 ha block of bush vines planted in 2003 on decomposed granite soils at Landskroon Farm in Paarl, this wine represents a precise and small-scale expression of old-vine Cinsault. Clone 756A on 101/14 rootstock was planted at 3,333 vines/ha, yielding just 1.445 tons in 2020. Hand-harvested on 5 February, 50% whole-bunch, and fermented with F83 yeast after nine days on skins, the wine was pressed and matured before bottling on 16 November 2020. Only 1,281 bottles were produced. Notably, this 2020 release is the final vintage of Helga Irene Cinsault, as the wine has now been discontinued. Bottled at 13.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Perfumed and pretty, with aromas of dark cherry, ripe plum, and pomegranate lifted by wild strawberry. Subtle notes of dried herbs, spice, and mineral undertones lend a savoury complexity.

Palate: Light-bodied yet confident, with juicy red and dark fruits at the core. The fruit density is balanced by refreshing acidity, while supple tannins lend quiet structure without heaviness.

Finish: Dry and refreshing, with lingering notes of red fruit, spice, and stony minerality. Elegant, delicate, and precise.
