DESCRIPTION
Luddite Saboteur Red 2022 is produced from a blend of 52% Shiraz, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Mourvèdre, and 12% Grenache. Grapes were sourced from five sites in Bot River and Walker Bay. The 2022 vintage delivered freshness and definition thanks to cooler conditions and healthy rains. Grapes were hand-harvested and vinified separately. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache Noir, and Mourvèdre were all fermented in small batches in open bins with some stalk inclusion to add freshness and balance the dark fruit character. The Shiraz portion was fermented in stainless steel tanks as usual with regular pump overs. After fermentation all the components were pressed directly into barrel, with some batches undergoing malolactic fermentation in barrel. After 12 months in barrel (10% new French oak), the final blend was assembled. 19,400 bottles of this vintage were produced along with 1,000 magnums. Bottled at 14%. (Bottle size 750ml)
TASTING NOTES
Nose: Heady aromatics of cranberry, cassis, and mulberry, lifted by floral perfume and herbal nuances. Subtle hints of cured meat, black pepper, and spice underscore the savoury dimension, with a touch of toastiness from oak.
Palate: Concentrated yet juicy, with red and black fruit layered over notes of spice and a gentle savoury edge. The mouthfeel shows generosity, with fruit sweetness at the core matched by a thread of brightness and crunchy tannins.
Finish: Long and balanced, carrying lingering dark fruit, spice, and cured meat complexity. A wine that trades polish for personality — thoughtfully crafted, compelling, and unapologetically bold.
