Part of Diageo's Special Releases for 2024, Spirited Xchange Second Edition, a collection said to be an exploration of the uncharted territories of taste, produced under the guidance of master blender Dr Stuart Morrison. Coastal Orchard is a single malt from the Oban distillery in the Highlands, matured for 10 years, initially in refill casks, before being finished in newly charred American oak barrels, seasoned with Oloroso sherry. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 58%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Fresh and ‘maritime’ with hints of sea air, crystal salt and seaweed. Light oak and vanilla, then dried mixed herbs with sherried, light fruit. Sicilian lemon and a faint thread of smoke.
Palate: Thick, fruity and sweet, with hints of orange and lemon, creamy vanilla, a pinch of sea-side salt and a whisper of peppery, oaky spice.
Finish: Medium length, ending in a smooth, warm spice.
