Nose: Light and smooth with plenty of sweetness. There are hints of dry spice and oily nuts, a touch of smoke.

Palate: Smooth and soft with notes of banana milkshake, a mixed nut note, a touch of caramel with crème anglaise.

Finish: Sweet with a little cereal sweetness and toasty oak.

Uncle Jack

"Let's face it, it's not America's best. But if you have guests who you aren't overly keen on but don't need the added liability that is serving rat poison (ie Black & White), give them a glass of uncle Jack, have the decency to hide your nicer stuff and return to your prayers that they leave soon. You can even have a glass yourself, just don't expect anything special and you'll be good."

Old No.7

"Tastes like regret. Suitcases and suitcases of regret served in 44ml increments"

Gateway Whiskey

"Let's be honest; this Tenessee Whisky is not going to be sipped and enjoyed neat on a regular basis at all. However, if you're going to buy something robust that you won't feel bad adding lots of ice or mixer to (especially during the hot South African summer), then this would be it. On its own, the nose is not particularly rewarding, but the palate has one or two redeeming qualities at least. Also, this is a "gateway whisky" which is responsible for making a lot of folks slightly more curious about trying other whisk(e)ys."
