DESCRIPTION
Made from 100% Chenin Blanc sourced from a single old-vine vineyard on the Paardeberg in Swartland, rooted in decomposed Malmesbury shale soils. The bush vines are 55 years old, naturally low-yielding at 6 t/ha, producing well-balanced fruit in a warm, dry climate tempered by altitude and coastal influences. Grapes were hand-harvested in the early morning of 6 February 2023 at 21° Balling, chilled overnight, hand-sorted and gently whole-bunch pressed. The juice was settled overnight at 8°C before being racked to old French oak barrels, where spontaneous fermentation occurred. The wine remained on its lees for nine months with stirring prior to bottling, followed by a further 24 months of bottle ageing before release. Residual Sugar 1.8 g/L. Bottled at 13.5% (Bottle size 750ml).
TASTING NOTES
Nose: Expressive and layered, showing orange blossom, tangerine and subtle caramel, with underlying stone fruit and citrus zest notes.
Palate: Textural and poised, with flavours of white peach and orange rind carried by a mineral, gently savoury core and a rounded, velvet-like mouthfeel.
Finish: Long and clean, with bright acidity providing lift and precision, and a chalky, dry line that extends the finish with clarity and balance.
