DESCRIPTION

A single-vineyard, old-vine Chenin Blanc from Roodekrantz in Agter-Paarl, a producer founded in 2015 by winemaker Danie Morkel and the Burger family that focuses on old-vine Chenin Blanc and Cinsault. The fruit comes from dryland bush vines planted in 1975, on an east-facing slope of clay and decomposed Malmesbury shale. The grapes were hand-harvested, gently pressed and fermented in older French oak barrels, then matured for 11 months on fine lees. It is a rich, textured style that balances ripe fruit with freshness and subtle oak. Rated 91/100 by Winemag. Bottled at 13%. (Bottle size 750ml)

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Complex aromas of mandarin, peach, dried pineapple and orange peel, complemented by subtle oak spice.

Palate: Rich and rounded, with ripe citrus, stone fruit and a gentle buttery character. A fleshy, textured mouthfeel is balanced by fresh acidity and well-integrated oak.

Finish: Long and expressive, with lingering notes of sour apricot, orange zest and a delicate savoury character.
