DESCRIPTION

Named after Mansa Musa, the ninth emperor of the Mali Empire, who it is suggested was the wealthiest person in history, Mansa African Whisky is crafted at the Midlands distillery in Kwazulu-Natal by Spearhead Spirits. Using 100% local South African maize along with sorghum, rye and barley in the mashbill, the whisky uses a selection of locally sourced reconditioned ex-red wine barrels that are heavily charred and matured in a temperature-controlled warehouse for between 3 and 5 years. Non-chillfiltered and bottled at 43%. (Bottle size 750ml)

OFFICIAL TASTING NOTES

Nose: Sweet, malty aromas dominate, with notes of caramel, vanilla, and dried apricot. Subtle hints of citrus zest and a light spiciness, including cinnamon and nutmeg, add depth.

Palate: Creamy with prominent flavours of toffee and butterscotch. The oak is evident with layers of charred wood and gentle smokiness. Dried fruit, honey, and a touch of chocolate contribute to the whisky’s complexity.

Finish: A medium-length finish with sweetness and toasted nuts. Subtle tannins enhance the warmth, while dark chocolate and citrus zest leave a memorable impression.

Local is lekker

"Something with a South African twist. Made with local ingredients it shows all the characteristics of Bourbon. Caramel, Vanilla, Dried Fruits with a dash of spiciness. The flavor profile gives off dried fruit, vanilla sweetness and smokey notes."
