A Miss For Me

"This Macallan doesn’t hit the mark in my opinion. I feel the dram from nose to finish is underwhelming and lacks the ‘wow’ factor that we’ve seen in previous Macallan editions. Perhaps I’m comparing it too much to the edition 4 which was outstanding. It’s still drinkable and somewhat enjoyable, but certainly underwhelming for the price. In saying all of this, Whiskybrother’s service in purchasing was, as usual exceptional and exceeded my expectations!"

Different yet the same

"The edition 5 comes with all the bells and whistles of the Macallan marketing machine. Whilst alot of the the overgrown marketing on the box is trying to attract those new to whisky, the cask breakdown is actually quite a nice touch for whisky connoisseurs. The edition 5 has a brainy sweetness with a great nose and lasting finish. The palate does not live up to earlier editions, but still a very good whisky. The name probably adds like R500 to this whiskey, but due to it being a limited edition release, it's flavor and favor will develop over time. Let's revisit in 5 years time!"

Half a Star

"Drinkable but kind of flat on the nose, the spice seems to be the only thing i pick up on the palate. No really moved by this edition."

So Below Average

"When the Editions series starting coming to SA, I didn't expect much, but after trying them I was genuinely impressed. Edition 2, 3 and 4 were solid whiskies with great sherry influence and offered fair value. Sadly, not so for Edition 5. Without a doubt this is young whisky- you can practically taste the new make/unaged spirit. Completely forgettable stuff."
