Am Bùrach, gaelic for ‘the mess’, was accidentally created in 2014 when an unnamed stillman, mixed Machir Bay and port cask matured Kilchoman, causing the distillery's general manager to describe the resulting whisky as ‘Am Bùrach’. The name stuck. The whisky was then filled back into bourbon barrels for a further six years and finished in ruby port casks for 6 months before release in 2020. A total of 10,550 bottles were produced. Bottled at 46%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: Red fruits with light citrus, earthy peat smoke and hints of creamy sweetness.

Palate: Redcurrant jam, cinnamon with layers of citrus, floral sweetness and coastal influence.

Finish: Layers of cooked red fruits, vanilla, peat and lasting intensity.

A very delicious mistake indeed!

"If this is the outcome of Kilchoman’s mistakes, then please guys, make some more! My previous favorite Kilchoman, the Loch Gorm has been unequivocally dethroned by this. Incredibly delicious earthy peat, sweet, rich and ripe red berries, easy drinking at that 46% (seriously like juice, perhaps too easy?!), and soft spice throughout. This is an absolutely legendary dram and deserves so much praise. So balanced, refined and complex. Yes, it’s on the pricey side, but for what you are getting, it is so worth it. My new favorite Killie and dare I say the best I’ve tasted yet from them. They have turned a “mistake”, into something rather special."
