DESCRIPTION

Released in 2014 when current owners, Bacardi (who own John Dewar & Sons), re-launched the brand with three core expressions, a 13yo, a 17yo and a 23yo. Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, which are then vatted together and split in half, with one half going into first-fill sherry casks and the other into first-fill bourbon casks to be finished for several months. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at 46%. (Bottle size 750ml)

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Aromas of oozing toasted marshmallows, and baked apples studded with cloves, with the tang of sulphury, cordite lingering in the background.

Palate: Delivers a malty and sweet complexity with a slight savoury smokiness and a refreshing tropical fruit.

Finish: A finish that is slightly smokey.

Wonderfully Tasty

"This is a great whisky, on the nose it is sweet with a clean fresh fruity taste that doesn't disappoint. A wonderful addition to the collection that is well worth the value. It left me wondering what took me so long to get a bottle."

Candied Matchbox

"The 'bad boy' of the Speyside is a fantastic alternative for those who tend to stick to only peated Scotch, this is also a great choice for those seeking more heavy flavours in Scotch. The palate is full of candyfloss sweetness, while still having a note of stewed apples and the finish is like tasting a struck match. This is not your average scotch whisky but it's rewarding to explore it."

Exceptional

"I was lucky enough to get an entry for the Craigellachie 50yo tasting where I discovered this treat of a dram. Sweet and smooth taste with a light spicy finish. Great addition to the collection"

Savory tarts can be a thing.

"Really an interesting yet very tasty dram. Everything you read about this whisky is true. It has a unique tart and custard nose and palate but mixes things up with a very meaty almost salty pastry flavor that lingers on the finish. A bit of a heavier drinking style whisky than your general easy drinking 12 year old but 100% worth buying!"
