The inaugural release of The Spice Tree used French oak staves placed inside the casks, which was deemed too radical a departure from tradition by the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA), forcing Compass Box to cease production. Relaunched in 2009, Compass Box now uses French oak barrel heads to create this second generation of The Spice Tree. Generally including single malts from Teaninich, Dailuaine and Clynelish, which are vatted together, re-casked and further matured. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at 46%.

Nose: Big, sweet aromas of clove, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla.

Palate: Full, round and sweet, with the spice and vanilla complementing the core distillery characters.

Finish: Long finish.

Not My Cup of Tea

"The highland style complexity and nuance offered in the nose and finish of this Whisky, is ultimately let down by its one dimensional palate. I cannot help but think that sticking to nothing but Highland malts here hasn’t helped Spice tree’s cause. An added component may have made this a knockout. Such a shame. Would drink, but wouldn’t seek out."

A fantastic blended malt

"I was always of the impression that blends were, well, bland. Spice tree is anything but. Amazing aromatics on the nose, with dried herbs and spices. This follows along on the palate, with herbal, vanilla notes pushing through to the forefront. Spicy finish that lingers."

A true spice box

"This whisky really does deliver on the name, yet it also comes with a rich apple note. It's a superb whisky. Very satisfying."

Super Value

"Incredible value for money, competes with much higher priced whisky. Easy drinking and full of flavour."
