Birnie Moss is BenRiach's heavily peated, no-age-statement (NAS) variant. This youngster is unapologetically feisty with malt peated to 35ppm, providing a solid  dose of peat and smoke, and offering great competition to the slew of peated NAS whiskies being released from the Islay peat-giants over recent years. The whisky is named after an area of windswept Moorland situated close to the distillery. Bottled at 48%.

Nose: Rich woody peat with a some vanilla and oak.

Palate: Plenty of peat not medicinal but woody and sweet. Vanilla with lots of tropical fruit.

Finish: ?Medium in length with peat dominating.

Like Licking a Hospital Floor...

"...but not in a bad way. This is a delicious dram and a personal favourite of mine for everyday drinking. It works well as a cheap option to introduce friends to the world of peat and just how out there whisky can be. The nose is reminiscent of a veld fire, a lot of vanilla and some light floral, heathery notes. On the palate, there is some fruitiness but it is dominated by the spice of the ABV, toasted cereals and strong medicinal flavours. The finish is simple and a continuation of the Speyside peat and vanilla."

Great value

"Fantastic dram - especially for the relatively low price. The peat balances well with the fruity notes in this whisky"

Great value dram

"This is a superb dram - even better at the price. Some nice peat on the nose, some sweet notes - nice peat balance on the palate, lovely sweetfruit but slight dry touch - lovely finish. An easy everyday dram and great value."

A good dram

"heavy peat on the nose and a bit woody. the taste is more citrus, some vanilla notes, oily and creaminess with sweetness coming through. it has a sweet finish. a great dram to have"
