Perpetuum was the 2015 annual limited edition which coincides each year with Fèis Ìle (Islay's whisky and music festival). This release also formed part of the distillery's 200th anniversary celebrations. The whisky is a vatting of both "very old” and young Ardbeg, matured in a combination of bourbon barrels and sherry casks. Bottled at 47.4%.
Nose: Tar, soot and pine resin leads to dark chocolate, treacle toffee, and a distant, nutty/oaky note.
Palate: Intense, robust peat smoke, savoury smoky bacon, cinnamon and nutmeg, but also a creamy, sweet vanilla and milk chocolate note.
Finish: The gentle finish sees more linseed oil (a hint of the sherry casks), creosote and tar.
