DESCRIPTION

A discontinued expression from the Wolfburn distillery in the Highlands. Originally known only as Wolfburn single malt, it was later named as Northland, before in essence evolving into an aged expression. Very lighted peated to 5ppm and matured in American oak quarter casks. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at 46%. (Bottle size 750ml)

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Initially sweet with fruit and fresh sea air along with a citrus freshness, hints of cereal and a trace of peat smoke.

Palate: Sweet, nutty tones come to the fore, with hints of grapes and honey in the background. Floral flavours abound, enhanced with just a hint of coffee and dark chocolate.

Finish: Lovely and rounded, coating the palate and leaving a trace of peat.

Solid whisky.

"Wanna try out some Wolfburn without breaking the bank? Try Northland. It's a great bottle even though the contents is a bit young, I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised."

Evolving

"A smooth dram with citrus and nuts on the palate. I also get cherries. Not the most complex but great value and a sign of things to come. Good for summer drinking. Look forward to trying more from this distillery."

Wolfburn, A Distillery To Watch

"Wolfburn are following in the footsteps of another cult-status distillery - Kilchoman - by producing exceptional (currently) young whiskies that you just know are going to go from strength to strength over the years and deepen in complexity. With a strong focus on cask management, these guys are doing things right. The Northland is a great intro into this distillery. Enjoy!"

Old Faithful

"We call it the Poker Night Whisky. The Fruity & Sweet flavours are a delight to the Palete. Although this is a Budget Whisky from Wolfburn Northland, it does not disappoint!!"

Jason N. (5/5)

Different

"A whisky that isnt on everyone's list of whiskys to try but pleasant with a nice hint of peatyness"

Adam V. (4/5)

Not for Everyone

"I haven’t had much exposure to this brand. I do recall sharing a bottle with my mates at the whisky brother bar Morningside. It wasn’t a standout whisky for me in terms of taste. Very smooth and hints of nuts and sweet tones. However at its price point I would rather spend my money elsewhere."

Prince in the North

"Wolfburn Northland is a standard whisky for the Wolfburn distilleries, hence I called it the prince in the north as I have only tried the Wolfburn Langskip (King in the North). The whisky has an earthy peatiness with honey notes. For a distillery that has been reawaken recently, it is a good whisky."

Sandile K. (4/5)

Its Dough good

"Wolfburn is one of my favorite distilleries, the northland is a beautiful entry level drinker that promises lots of wonderful notes. The nose reminds me of the time i used to make pizza dough, the peat on this whisky is very faint on the nose. Lots of fruit notes on the palate and the peat comes alive on that 1st sip and the oils coat the tongue. Not a long finish though but a wonderful drinker to try out."
