Pleasant Surprise
"Smokehead is a dram I never paid any attention due to it’s infamous harsh peat relative to other drams but the rum infusion won me over at TOWS and I bought a bottle straight after. 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾"
A limited-edition single malt Smokehead from an undisclosed Islay distillery, released on 16 August 2020 to mark International Rum Day. Finished in casks that previously held Caribbean rum. Bottled at 46%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Hanging out in Caribbean rum casks gives this Smokehead a jolt of immense smoke and fiery peat, followed by soothing citrus and tropical fruits. And is that marshmallow and bacon in there...?
Palate: Face down a fearlessly rich and peaty punch, thick oils and bracing sea spray, tempered with dried spices, banana and dark wood.
Finish: The safety of dry land is in sight. Notes of caramel and cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla, add a delicate contrast to the lingering smokiness.
Overall rating: 5.0 / 5 from 2 reviews.

"As far as Smokehead's go, this one isn't as potent as the others, but it's definitely one of the better ones. The sweetness of the rum cask and the salty smoke from the peat make a brilliant combination. Very easy to drink (mine didn't last too long)."
