DESCRIPTION

Released in 2015 as part of the redesigned range, the Double Cask is matured in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and then finished in ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry casks for up to 12 months. Bottled at 46%. (Bottle size 750ml)

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Sweet with creme caramel, caramelised fruit, wood sugar, toffee and fudge before some apple, peach emerge and soft smoke.

Palate: Again with the sweet start, followed by a little tongue-tingling mint buzz and the drying and oily distillery character.

Finish: A warm finish of ginger, chocolate, sherry notes and light peat.

Delicious

"This is a delicious Campbelltown - and the write-up is not at all misleading; it's entirely accurate. I experience no peat; if it's there at all, it's subtle."

Disappointing

"Write up was misleading, this is a peated whiskey and should've been described as such"

Bravo

"Different from the typical sherry + bourbon combo whiskies. Lots of fruit, apples, quince beautifully integrated with baking sweet spices. Lovely lingering finish that reminds me of apple crumble"

Campbeltown Funk

"One whisky that I have drank that exhibits some Juniper notes on the nose, a bit of dry spice on the palate. Loving every sip that Iam taking coz this whisky keeps developing new characters as I let it sit in the glass. Creamy on the palate and a bit dusty on the nose. Try this and be amazed."

"This is a fantastic dram, good value for money and with lots of flavour"

Great Non Age Statement Whiskey - A Personal Preference

"So I mean this one is fairly pricey for a non age statement. So one is definitely (and rightly so) hesitant to fork out an amount of cash which could be put towards the 15 year old. But if you do dare you will be surprised at how good this is. Even with the (presumably) younger product. And I believe the Pedro Ximenez sherry casks gives this double cask the edge through and through. I have experienced a few bottles with finishes in PX sherry casks and one thing that I have picked up is how the sweetness marries extremely well with most products. It rounds it off very well! On a spring / autumn evening this is my go to bottle. It has such a comforting warm effect that I have grown very fond of it - even if the 15 year old is objectively a better product overall. I guess it comes down to personal preference and the circumstances of the day. Basically - get this one and the 15 year old to keep all weary feelings and potential regrets at bay"

Glen Scotia Double Cask

"This one is all sweets, fudge, salted caramel, toffee, chocolate - some people say christmas cake. The sort of thing Willy Wonka would have if he ever turned to drink"

"Smooth and sweet! If you like a sherry cask whisky then this is right up your alley - at this price, for this taste 4/5 for me"

NAS does not always mean bad

"I had no idea what to expect from this one when I tried it for the first time, even though I had just finished a bottle of the Glen Scotia 15. I must say that I was greatly and very pleasantly surprised, and come to think of it, this whisky really answers my question that I had after trying the 15, as I knew that only American ex-bourbon barrels are used for that one. This made me wonder what effect a different type of cask influence would have on the Glen Scotia spirit, and the answer is delicious!"

Cambletown brilliance

"One of the best NAS whiskies out there. Definitely the best mouth feel of any NAS whisky. Viscous toffee sweetness with salt and dark fruit mixed together. Notable flavours are raisins and salted caramel for me, with some lingering spice in the finish. Punches way above its price point and has been a big hit with some of my friends that are newcomers to whisky. I try to always keep a bottle but it doesn't last very long on the shelf."
