DESCRIPTION
A limited edition from the Kilchoman distillery on Islay, named Casado after the Portuguese word for marriage, first released in 2022. Distilled in 2014 from Kilchoman's 50ppm heavily-peated spirit, 38 casks were matured for 6 years in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels before being married together for 2 years in two 6,000-litre Portuguese red wine vats. Only 12,900 bottles produced. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at 46%. (Bottle size 750ml)
TASTING NOTES
Nose: Campfire smoke balanced with ripe summer stone fruits; peach, plum and cherry. Deep notes of marzipan combined with layered maritime notes.
Palate: The red wine vatting brings pepper and spice. Dry, salty peat smoke, yet fruit notes of apricot and lemon find their way through.
Finish: A long finish which brings a hot, spicy character. Stewed, cooked fruit gives a sweet-jam profile and an ongoing sweetness that balances the classic Kilchoman smoke.
