DESCRIPTION

A small batch release from the Akkeshi distillery, located on the northernmost island of Hokkaido, Japan. Named the best blended whisky in the world at the World Whiskies Awards 2022, Akkeshi Shosho is part of the 24 Sekki series, inspired by the ancient Asian calendar that divides the year into 24 solar seasons. Shosho refers to the season between late summer and early fall when temperatures begin to drop and grains, especially barley, are harvested. Crafted from a blend of malt whiskies distilled at Akkeshi and imported grain whiskies, all matured in the distillery's cellar in a variety of casks, including bourbon, Mizunara, and sherry. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured, and bottled at 48%.

Founded in 2016 by Kenten Jitsugyo, a trading company based in Tokyo, Akkeshi distillery aims to create a Japanese version of Islay's smoky malt whisky. The distillery uses local ingredients and resources to produce its whiskies, which are aged in a variety of casks. In 2020, the Akkeshi distillery released its first single malt Japanese whisky.
