DESCRIPTION

The Inselberg Katalyst Syrah 2023 is the inaugural release from Inselberg Wines, a premium small-batch producer based in South Africa. Sourced from a dryland vineyard in Agter-Paarl planted on shale and granite soils, the wine is crafted to express both power and elegance. The grapes were basket pressed, with the cap manually punched down every three hours during fermentation before the wine was matured for a minimum of 12 months in first- and second-fill medium-toast French oak barrels. Bottled at 14.5% ABV. The Katalyst is designed to reward 8–10 years of cellaring.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Inviting aromas of red and black berries are layered with cured meat, cracked black pepper and fragrant baking spices, creating a complex and distinctly Rhône-inspired bouquet.

Palate: Full-bodied yet elegant, the palate delivers succulent blackberry, plum and dark cherry flavours, supported by savoury spice, fine-grained tannins and beautifully integrated French oak. The wine is concentrated without feeling heavy, maintaining freshness and balance throughout.

Finish: Long, polished and gently savoury, with lingering black fruit, pepper spice and refined oak, leaving a persistent and beautifully structured finish.
